For years I feel as if I am the only one who standardizes everything, especially network device configs. Am I the only one? Who else has already standardized all/most of their configs? By brand? Naming convention? Unbreakable naming convention?
What is the approach?
What part is automated and how?
What part is manual and how?
Does it lead into change control / access / backups / administration / audit-compliance?
Does it make your job easier or add unneeded complexity?
This process should be a ton of work at first but once complete, it's a teachable process that adds consistency and eliminates user mistakes or naming based on how someone feels that day.
