We've found that weekly meetings within our Network group help. It gives us a chance to get together and discuss what each member of the group is working on for the week. This way we can support each other more effectively. We also send out an email to the rest of the groups in the IT department to let them know what our main focuses are for the week. We also have weekly construction meetings to discuss where construction projects are at and what we need to focus on to complete them from a networking perspective. We also try to visit with at least the server group weekly or bi-weekly to see what projects they are working on that will require support from the network group.
Commands that we find useful: (we are an Aruba switch shop)
Show log all - to see if there are any interface messages for a port if someone has a complaint about a connection issue
Show interface gigabit x/x/x - to determine if there are any errors on the interface
show trace interface-manager
show trace layer2-forwarding
